Coachella Weekend

If I could describe Coachella in one word that word would be phenomenal.  If you've been following me here for awhile, you know I've been dying to attend Coachella for years (let me take you back to here and here) and I finally made it!  So worth the wait!  For those that don't know, Coachella is a Music and Arts Festival that takes place in Indio, California on over a span of three days.  Indio is a town about 30 minutes away from Palm Springs - where 10 of us (shout-out to my crew) stood at an Air BnB because this girl does not do the not-showering-for-three-days thing. The line-up this year was insane. The headliners were The Weeknd, Beyonce, and Eminem.  Some other major performances for me were Cardi B, French Montana, Russ, and Sza.  I also fell in love with new music - Alina Baraz is amazing.

Day 1 - Friday, 4/20/18: I ran on coffee the entire day because I was still jet lagged.  This outfit was my favorite out of the three days.  I'm not at all the flower crown in your hair, fringe-wearing, typical"Coachella" kinda girl.  In everything I do, subtle trend is what I feel most comfortable in.  This romper was a last minute purchase at Express and like I mentioned before, I've been getting really lucky when buying clothes there.  Right away I knew it would go great with this hat.  It's so important to have one because during the day that sun is strong.  The last time I wore this basket bag was last year in the Dominican Republic.  A lot of people told me I wouldn't be comfortable in sandals but I felt fine.  Your feet get a little dirty but seriously no big deal.  Your entire body will be covered in dust, anyway.  By the end of the night, you won't even notice your feet, trust me.

I'll be honest, Friday was probably the least exciting for me.  Don't get me wrong, I had a great time.  As far as the line-up, The Weeknd, and SZA were the only performers I was looking forward to seeing that day.  Being that we got there super early, I did a lot of taking in of the scenery and took advantage of every photo op possible - like these in front of the famous Ferris Wheel.  Wifi wasn't great which ended up being a blessing.  I spent a lot of time sitting in the grass, chatting with the girls, and people-watching.  There are so many people but it's almost like everyone is in there own little world.  My crew loves EDM so I followed them around until it was time for SZA and The Weeknd to come on.  I danced all day and all night long.  For someone who isn't really into EDM, I had a great time.  The energy alone was incredible.  By the end of the night, we were all exhausted and it was only the beginning.  SZA was amazing and I love her vibe.  I felt every word in her music and the story behind it.  The Weeknd, of course, amazing.  Wow, that man can sing.

Day 2 - Sat, 4/21/18: Beyonce Day!  The entire group was pumped for this day if you couldn't tell by our shirts. I learned a lot from the day before like not to wear a cross-body bag that will bang at your hip the entire time you dance.  No matter how cute it may look, sometimes it just isn't worth it.  Or better said, it wasn't worth it at the moment but for the pictures it was. ;)  Anyway, this fanny pack was a much better choice (worn here as a crossbody) and it matched the shirt so well because of the gold lettering.  I was originally going to wear denim shorts but I bought these cute little flower shorts for 6 bucks at a store in Chinatown (downtown LA) and I ended up loving the way they looked.  I wish the pictures were more clear but I'll definitely be wearing this outfit again to provide more details of the look.  Just realized that you can't see my Soludo espadrilles in any of these pics.  Definitely, have to recreate this look again.

The first day was sort of practice for the rest of the weekend.  We were much prepared for day 2 just based off of what we did wrong the day before like leaving the house way too early.  We took our time leaving this day and it was so much more worth it.  We spent less time in the sun so we weren't as drained.  But the only reason we got away with it was that a lot of our favorite artists weren't set to come out until about 4:00 pm or so.  There were a lot of Avicii tributes through the weekend but Mike Posner's was my favorite.  I also saw and heard Alina Baraz for the first time in my life and now love her music.  I attempted to see Post Malone's set but that crowd was insane.  I saw him perform like 1 or 2 songs and I jetted out.  The Beehive was obviously on a rampage.  Walking to the main stage was insane and I  have no idea how we managed to even get as close as we did.  She came in 25 minutes late which was annoying.  Let me tell you though, watching her perform is so worth it.  That girl can put on a show.  It was one of the most impressive things I've seen in my life.  No exaggeration.  She had musicians, a drumline, dancers and a legit step team on that stage.  You can tell the amount of blood, sweat, and tears this woman and her team put into that show.  She sang all my favorite songs and she brought out Jay Z, Destiny's Child, J. Balvin and Solange who did a dance routine with her.  It was a full-on concert and I almost felt like I cheated my way in because that set alone was worth more than the $500 I spent to go to the entire festival.  I'm getting chills now talking about it.  I literally can go on and on about how great she was and yes, she looks that FLAWLESS in person.

Day 3 - Sunday, 4/22/18:  As the days went on, I took fewer pictures.  I blame part exhaustion and part battery life.  My charger stopped working halfway through and I wanted to enjoy as much of the festival as possible and not be phoneless.  Eminem a.k.a. one of my favorite human beings ever was at the end of the night.  #Priorities.  By day 3, I was more chill and my outfit reflected that.  This maxi dress gave me life in more ways than one.  Another outfit that I wish I had better pictures of.  Accessories are key when everything else is so simple.  This headband brought a little color and pattern to the look and added more of a bohemian vibe.  My yellow backpack is one of my favorite purchases.  It holds so much and always comes through as the perfect pop of color.  I love the gingham scarf tied to it.  {See the last time I wore it here.}

As far as the day, the group split up and I ventured out on my own a lot.  There were so many artists performing this day and that was the only way we would all see who we wanted without getting in each other's way.  I loved Russ' performance and was really happy I made it in time to see him.  Cardi B killed it.  I gotta give it to her, 7 months pregnant and she tore the stage up.  I didn't go that hard with making it to the front of each set after Cardi.  I went to see French by myself so I stood on the outskirts and enjoyed him from the back.  I skipped out on Miguel and Migos because I was so tired and I didn't want to miss out on Eminem.   But, Eminem {insert heart eye emojis here}.  He was the highlight of my weekend, yes, even before Beyonce.  I waited the entire weekend to see this man.  I loved him since my pre-teen days when I would sit on my couch watching music videos on MTV.  I rapped every song word for word and no one could tell me nothing.  I was not leaving until that man walked off the stage!  He brought out Dr. Dre and 50 Cent and did a few sets with them.  When he walked off stage people started screaming "encore, encore".  He came back out to Lose Yourself and the crowd, including me, went wild.  It was the perfect ending to the weekend.

If you read through this entire thing, bless your heart.  I know it was a lot to take in.  I really did try my best to keep it as short as possible but three days is a lot to cover in one post.  If you ever plan on going (which you obviously should for more reasons than one) I would definitely say to prepare yourself because as fun as it is it is very tiring.  BUT again so worth it.  You can see videos of me at Coachella on my Instagram Stories.  Just go to my page and you'll see it there! I hope you guys enjoyed Coachella through my eyes! I would definitely go again!

Cool Cali Vibes

On day one, I filled my lungs with the sweet, salty California air and fell in love with "real" Mexican food. The name of this restaurant "Cielito Lindo" makes me smile.  I thought it was such a cute and a true description of the California sky.  I fell in love with California right away.  As soon as I arrived, I settled into my Air BnB located in Chinatown, Los Angeles and then headed out for a late lunch.  This place was good but not my favorite spot.  I did love the location and the cute decor, though!

I knew that I would be on the go as soon as I landed in Cali, which is why when it came to dressing for the plane ride from New York, I wanted to wear something that was comfy and cute.  I am so obsessed with these A&F jeans.  The smallest details make all the difference, just check out the bottom of these jeans.  I love that detail plus the raw edge! Yes! When I bought this sweater at Beacon's Closet, I just knew they would be the perfect match for these jeans!  A light-weight, open-knit sweater was just what I needed to transition into California from New York weather.   I can definitely see myself repeating this outfit time and time again.

Modern Love

As much as I loved this outfit, I promise that I'm not trying to torture you by sharing the same thing over and over again.  Like I mentioned here, I wanted to share how incredible this restaurant was.  I spoke about the restaurant Modern Love in my last post as well as this one.  I loved it so much that I immediately pictured myself recreating the entire meal at home...it's that good.

If you have been following me for awhile, you know about my battle with food allergies and my struggle with learning what I can and cannot eat.  I did a 12 day smoothie challenge and it really helped clean out my body so I could reintroduce different foods back into my diet little by little.  After the smoothie challenge, I found myself afraid to eat.  I know it sounds dramatic but when you wake up to a black eye or hives all over your face and body due to what you ate you would understand.  Anyway, for my birthday I wanted to just enjoy food like a normal person.  I decided back in January that I wanted to cut out meat completely and in March decided that I would do the same with dairy. Meat was easier than I thought but dairy was so hard because I love cheese.

I turned to my trusty Yelp app and found Modern Love Brooklyn.  I went for Sunday Brunch and when I tell you I scraped the plate, I'm not kidding.  I mean, just take a peek at the menu! I had the Chickpea Frittata which is mashed chickpeas with smoked walnut "chorizo" on top (I do have a nut allergy but am able to eat roasted or "cooked" nuts.) Over that, they put guacamole, pico, pickled red onions, and a house hot sauce.  I'm going to share a picture on Instastories so you can see how it looks.  Guys, I can go on and on.  Who would have thought that mash chickpeas could change my life?  If you're ever in the area, please try it out.  Vegan or not, you would love it.  Let me know if any of you stop by so you can tell me what to try next!

And if you're looking for the details on this outfit, check my last post

Transitioning Into Spring

Hi, guys!  I know it's been like three weeks!  That birthday behavior had me on the go!  I'm still a little jetlagged so I'm sorry in advance if I ramble - I'm delirous.  So, before I share all my fun photos and outfits from Coachella and the rest of Cali, I wanted to share these from a couple of weeks ago.  I know, I know.  Most of you have probably put away most of your winter clothes but here in NY, we're still a bit skeptical.  Plus, now would be the best time to shop for winter thanks to all the sales.  Right now it's 85 degrees out so it would actually be insane to wear this but hey, like I said, ya never know.  Most of the stuff I am wearing I bought at the beginning of the fall/winter season or is currently sold out.  I am linking similar items at the bottom of this post for your shopping pleasure. :)

Kyle Bouclé Coat | Abigail Oversized Boucle Blazer Coat | Three Dots Thermal Mixed Rib TopFree People Laguna Thermal | Echo Chenille Beanie | TopShop Chenille beanie | Melie Bianco Felix Vegan Leather Crossbod

These photos were taken the day after my birthday.  I worked the night of my birthday so the next day I wanted to take it easy considering that I would be going on vacation not too long after.  A friend of mine and I went venturing out to Brooklyn for the day and we had an awesome time.  It was still pretty chilly out so I wore light layers.  This crossbody was the best decision I made that day.  I was able to be hands-free and not worry about having to lug around a huge pocketbook.  So, I'm actually splitting this post into two because I really wanted to tell you about the restaurant we ate at that day and how awesome it was.  When you have crazy food allergies like I do, you can appreciate a good restaurant that makes veggies taste like a gourmet meal.  Can't wait to share so stay tuned for that!
